Fazenda San Francisco and Fazenda Baía das Pedras offer you, birdwatcher and nature lover, the opportunity to know a place considered one of the richest in biodiversity in the world, the Brazilian Pantanal. This place is subdivided in 11 sub-regions distinct by the degree of inundation and drainage, vegetation, soil type and geology.
It is presented here a product for people interested in knowing, in one trip, two of these distinct sub-regions of the Pantanal:
Pantanal of Miranda, through Fazenda San Francisco, and Pantanal of Nhecolândia, through Fazenda Baía das Pedras.
Pantanal de Miranda
A dense Forest, cut by perennial watercourses, characterizes Pantanal of Miranda. The main rivers are Miranda and Salobra, which have great part running through the Bodoquena Plateau, a calcium formation. The rains deposit at the Pantanal prairies great amount of sediment rich in calcium and magnesium, forming an earth of silt texture very different of the sandy soil found in Pantanal of Nhecolândia. This characterizes a fertile soil that leads to a denser forestation. In the Pantanal of Miranda one can find fields full of Carandá palm trees (Copernicia alba) and arboreal formations with dominant species like the Yellow trumpet tree (Tabebuia aurea) and the Pink trumpet trees (Tabebuia impetiginosa and T. heptaphyla). These arboreal formations locally known as Paratudais and Piuvais attracts people because by the beauty of its colorful flowers. Due to the proximity to Bodoquena Plateau, this is a transition zone between plateau and prairie leading to great diversity of habitats and, thus, enhancing the chances of sighting a big number of bird species.
Pantanal de Nhecolândia
The Pantanal of Nhecolândia is situated on the Taquari River’s plain and is characterized by extremely sandy soil and by fertility varying from low, in areas locally known as “caronais” or “fura bucho” fields, to average or relatively high one in “cordilheiras” with Forest and Acuri palm trees (Attalea phalerata).
Nhecolândia region is limited by the Paraguai River in the west, Matogrosso plateau in the east, the Negro river in the south and the Taquari River in the north. There are ebb tides or “Vazantes” - low areas that get flooded during the rainy season; Bays or “Baías” – almost always flooded ground depressions; “Salinas” – bays with high level of salt; and “Cordilheiras” - sandy areas that are never flooded but covered with arborous and shrubbery formations. There is a Manduvi tree (Sterculia apetala) to be easily found on “Cordilheiras”, the main tree where an amazingly beautiful and threatened by extinction Hyacinth Macaw (Anodorhynchus hyacinthinus) makes it nest. Acuri palm (A. phalerata) and Jatobá tree (Hymenaea Stignocarpa) – two of its main food sources.
Program for birding
A program of 09 days / 08 nights, spending 04 nights on each Fazenda, makes it possible to truly enjoy both San Francisco and Baía das Pedras. With hundreds of bird species registered on the Fazendas, the chance of observing a greater number of birds is considerably enhanced. Payment conditions:
- 30% notice for reserve confirmation through bank
deposit. Rest of the payment at check out in
the Fazenda.
Cancellation:
- In case of canceling in less than 15 days prior to
check-in there will be no refunding of 30% notice;
- Full payment of trip in case of no show in the
reserved date.

Each overnight includes:
